Week 3 Target Report

Week 3 Targets thanks again to fantasysharks.com

  • Brandon Marshall and Austin Collie led in targets this week and it showed with their great games.
  • Frank Gore led the RB in targets and Antonio Gates led the TEs
  • Through the first 3 weeks Roddy White leads all WRs with 41 targets followed by Brandon Marshall with 37
  • Larry Fitzgerald (34) and Terrell Owens (33) are in the top 5 for targets but both have poor conversion percentages. Larry Fitzgerald has only 12 receptions and Owens has 14 receptions. The poor play of their QBs has contributed to the low number of receptions especially in Fitzgerald's case.
  • Frank Gore leads the RBs this season with 29 targets through 3 weeks. Rookie Jahvid Best is 2nd with 24 followed by Adrian Peterson. With Chester Taylor in Chicago allowing Adrian Peterson to play more 3rd downs now has given him a big fantasy boost with the potential of adding 50+ receptions to his already great rushing stats.
  • Not surprising that Dallas Clark (27), Antonio Gates (26) and Vernon Davis (25) are the top targeted TEs through the first 3 weeks. But what is surprising is John Carlson (24)at number 4. Carlson came into the season as a TE2 and probably went undrafted in some leagues. If he continues to get a good amount of looks and turns it into good productive numbers Carlson could move into the lower tier of TE1.

Waiver Wire 3

There isn't much out there this week but here are some of the players that I think should be picked up this week.

Quarterback: There isn't much out there right now on the wire for QBs but if Mark Sanchez happens to not be on the roster he is the only QB I feel is warranted a pick this which.

Runningback:

BenJarvis Green-Ellis, Patriots: Green-Ellis this past week was the leading rusher for the Patriots with 98 yards on 16 carries. He also scored a 7 yard TD. Green-Ellis got the carries because of an injury to Fred Taylor. Green-Ellis could emerge as the lead back if Taylor is bothered by the toe injury for the next few weeks. Green-Ellis is worth a pickup in all leagues but shouldn't be considered more than a RB4.

Ryan Torain, Redskins: The Redskins signed Torain off their practice squad late in the week last week . It was believed the rookie Keiland Williams would be the #2 back behind Clinton Portis but that wasn't the case as Williams was regulated to backing up on 3rd downs. Torain carried the ball 7 times for 46 yards and split the carries evenly with Portis. Torain also has a history with head coach Mike Shanahan as he was drafted by him in the 5th round while he was still with the Broncos in 2008. Torain that preseason was shaping up to be a deep sleeper at RB but was sidelined for 3 months when he broke his elbow. He returned and started 1 game that year were he rushed for 68 yards and 1 TD but was injured in the second quarter of that game with a torn ACL. If you picked up Keiland Williams drop him and pick up Ryan Torain. Portis' days as a lead back are numbered and Torain could takeover as the main back of the committee in no time in Washington.

Christopher Ivory, Saints: Ivory was having a impressive preseason this year before he injured his knee in the last game of it. Ivory returned to full health this week and show some action with 7 carries. With the injury to Reggie Bush the Saints need to find someone to help out Thomas and the get the running game going. Ivory is worth a stash in deeper leagues to see if he gets an increased role in the Saints offense in the next few weeks.

LeGarrette Blount, Buccaneers: Rookie Blount is coming into the league after having a horrible year in senior year in college that saw him get suspended for punching a Boise State player after the the Oregon Ducks season opening loss on national TV. Blount missed 10 games because of the punch. Blount this week saw his first NFL action with the Bucs and rushed 7 times for 26 yards and 1 TD against the Steelers. Blount looked faster than veteran RB Caddy Williams and a better back in general. Head coach Raheem Morris has come out saying that Williams' workload will be reduced and Blount is in line to take a carries away from him. Blount is a very deep sleeper at RB with this news and could become a nice little RB4 for fantasy teams.

Wide Receivers:

Louis Murphy: Murphy lead the way again for the Raiders in receiving with 119 yards on 5 receptions. Murphy and newly named starting QB Bruce Gradkowski spent alot of time together on the Raiders second team last year and have looked to have grown a some nice chemistry. Murphy should be owned in all leagues and makes a fine WR4 for fantasy owners.

Lance Moore: Moore busted out with 2 TDs and 149 yards receiving this week and it may not be just a fluke. 2 years ago when Moore landed on the fantasy owners radars scoring 10 TDs and having over 900 yards receiving his best games came when Reggie Bush was out with injury. Between the weeks 8 and week 13 (Saints bye was week 9) that year Bush was out with injury and Moore had his best stretch of games scoring 6 TDs and catching 27 passes for 388 yards. Moore should be picked up in every league and viewed as a great WR4 that has the potential to be a WR3 until Bush gets back.

Week 3 Recap SNF and MNF

Jets 31, Dolphins 23
Jets: Since his poor play in week 1 Mark Sanchez has thrown 6 TDs and 476 yards passing. Sanchez threw 3 more TDs this week and had 256 yards passing. If Sanchez can keep this up he would make a great QB2 going into the bye weeks. LaDanian Tomlinson again led the way for the Jets on the ground. Tomlinson rushed for 70 yards on 15 carries and had a 1 yard TD rush. He also had 3 catches for 18 yards. Shonn Greene continues to be the second back in the committee only getting 10 carries and rushing for 36 yards. Tomlinson has looked way more explosive than Greene and is the RB to own from the Jets. Tomlinson is a low end RB2 right now and makes a great RB3, while Greene is a RB3/RB4. Braylon Edwards was benched for the first quarter and when he finally got to play he had a 67 yard TD reception and finished the game with 82 yards total. Edwards is no more than a WR4 right now and when Santonio Holmes returns in week 5 he will be the top WR for the Jets. Dustin Keller is becoming a good TE1 for fantasy owners. Keller caught 2 TDs and had total of 98 yards receiving.

Dolphins: Brandon Marshall had his breakout game for the Dolphins this week. He hauled in 10 passes for 166 yards and 1 TD. There were fears that Marshall wouldn't be used the same as he was in Denver but this game shows that he still can put up those same type of numbers. Marshall is a solid WR1 for fantasy teams. Chad Henne had 363 yards passing and 2 TDS with 1 INT. Henne is no more than a QB2 right now and should only be used in bye weeks. The Dolphins running game has not shown the same effectiveness that it has in the past fews year so far this season. Ronnie Brown the lead back for the Dolphins had 11 carries for 54 yards and Ricky Williams had just 7 carries for 28 yards. Right now Brown is a RB3 until he starts to put up some numbers and Ricky Williams can be dropped from teams.

Bears 20, Packers 17
Bears: Jay Cutler did not play that great but it played well enough to beat the Packers. Cutler threw for 221 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT. He also was the Bears leading rusher with 31 yards. Cutler remains a solid QB1 and should bounce back with a good game next week against the Giants. Matt Forte since his great  week 1 performance has followed it up with 2 poor games. His TD week 2 did salvage his day and gave his owners some help. Tonight Forte rushed 11 times for 29 yards and only had 2 catches for 14 yards. The Packers D is tough but Forte wasn't used in the passing game like he was in the first two weeks this week. Matt Forte is a RB2 for fantasy owners and might be a sell high candidate. Johnny Knox was the top WR for the Bears tonight catching 4 balls for 97 yards. Knox is low end WR3 at this point of the season. Devin Aromashodu who was every experts top sleeper at WR was inactive for this game even though he was healthy. As I said last week Aromashodu has fallen on the depth chart and can be dropped in all leagues.

Packers: Aaron Rodgers rushed for his 2nd TD of the season tonight and finished the game with 316 yards passing and 1 passing TD and 1 INT. Rodgers is a stud QB and he continues to show it. With the Packers struggling to run the ball look for Rodgers to throw the ball even more. Brandon Jackson the hot waiver wire pick up when Ryan Grant went down only had 7 carries for 13 yards and caught 4 passes for 27 yards. John Kuhn rushed 6 times for 31 yards and had 2 receptions for 20. The Packers look to be going to a short passing game to replace its running game and that should bode well for Jerimichael Finley (9-115) and Donald Driver (9-61). Brandon Jackson should be no more than a RB4 for fantasy owners now and can be dropped if you have depth at the RB position. Greg Jennings caught the lone TD pass tonight and finished with just 2 catches for 18 yards.

Week 3 Recap Late Games

Rams 30, Redskins 16
Rams: Steven Jackson (10-58-1) scored his first TD of the season on a 42 yard run on the opening drive of the game fro the Rams. But Jackson was sidelined in the first half by what turned out to be a strained groin. It is unknown at this time if Jackson will miss any time due to this injury. Make sure to check practice reports throughout the week. Sam Bradford put forth another solid game throwing 1 TD along with 1 INT and 235 yards passing. Bradford is a borderline QB2 right now in standard fantasy leagues. Mark Clayton continued to be Bradford's top WR catching 5 passes for 85 yards this week. Clayton should be considered no more than a WR3 for fantasy owners. Kenneth Darby filled in for the injured Jackson and rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries and 1 TD. As of right now Darby would be in line to pick up the start if Jackson doesn't play this weekend but he should not be considered a starter for fantasy teams.

Redskins: Donavon McNabb followed up last weeks great game with an average one this week. McNabb managed only 236 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT. McNabb remains a borderline QB1 for fantasy owners. McNabb is a great QB2 though for teams this season. Clinton Portis days as a reliable RB in fantasy football are ending. This week  Larry Johnson was released and rookie RB Keiland Williams was believed to be next in line behind Portis and was the hot waiver wire pickup. But Ryan Torian, who was signed from the practice squad, was the RB that split time with Portis. Torian (7-46) and Portis (7-44) look to be the two lead backs in this RBBC with Keiland Williams being a 3rd down back at most. Williams can be dropped in leagues and Ryan Torian should be picked up. Torian is no more than a RB4 that could have some upside while Portis falls to a RB4 and is no more than a desperate play for teams with bye week issues. Santana Moss continued his nice start with a 124 yard day and 1 TD. Moss should be viewed as a WR3 with upside as long as him and McNabb stay healthy. Chris Cooley also had a solid day with 5 catches for 53 yards and remains a TE1 in fantasy leagues.

Eagles 28, Jaguars 3
Eagles: Michael Vick was amazing again this week for owners throwing for 291 yards and 3 TDs to go along with 30 yards rushing and another TD on the ground. Vick is a great QB1 and is shaping up to be a elite QB1 and could finish the season as the top scoring fantasy QB. If you have Vick and another good QB on your roster feel free to trade one to help upgrade your team at another position. DeSean Jackson had a great game again with Vick at the helm hauling in a TD and finishing the day with 1 TD also. Jackson since week 1 has regained his WR1 status. Jeremy Maclin scored 2 more TDs this week and has 4 total on the season. Maclin (4-83-2) is not getting the ball that much but he is doing alot with the few passes he gets his way. If he continues to score TDs, Maclin should be considered a solid WR3 with some upside. LeSean McCoy had a average game this week with 61 yards on a total of 13 touches. McCoy is a solid RB2 and will have weeks like this just like Brian Westbrook did so don't get down on McCoy. Brent Celek had a better game with 4 catches for 42 yards but should be considered a low end TE1.

Jaguars: Maurice Jones-Drew's poor start continues again this week. Jones-Drew 24 touches for a total of 89 yards and no TDs. David Garrard's (13/30-105-0-1) horrible play has really affected Jones-Drew's production. Until Garrard plays better or is replaced Jones-Drew should not be considered a RB1. If you are able to trade Jones-Drew for a solid RB don't be afraid to move him. Mike Sims-Walker (2-34) should be considered a WR3 at best now with the up and down weeks he is having this season.

Colts 27, Broncos 13
Colts: Peyton Manning remained on fire again this week throwing for 325 yards and 3 TDs and no INTs again. Mannings TD to INT ratio so far this year is now 9 to 0. Manning selected behind the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees at the QB position in drafts this year has shown that he is just as good if not better than those two. Joseph Addai was slowed by a knee injury this week and only managed 39 yards total on 15 touches. Addai is still a solid RB2 for fantasy teams. Donald Brown only had 7 carries for 12 yards and remains a RB4 as along as Addai is playing. Reggie Wayne put up okay numbers with 4 catches for 65 yards, while Austin Collie continued to shine early here in the season with 12 catches for 171 yards and 2 TDs. Collie's huge game was the benefit of Pierre Garcon being out with injury. As of right now Collie is a good WR2 and Garcon is droppable in leagues now.Rookie WR Blair White (3-27-1) is worth a look in very deep leagues and dynasty type leagues with the injures to other Colts WRs.

Broncos: Knowshon Moreno was out with a hamstring injury that was sustained in Fridays practice. Newly acquired Laurence Marony was the main back for the Broncos this week and only managed 24 yards rushing on 12 carries and had 2 receptions for 40 yards. Correll Buckhalter was non factor in the rushing game but did have 6 receptions for 33 yards. Maroney looks to get the bulk of carries for the Broncos until Moreno is healthy and Buckhalter is a 3rd down back at most. Neither make a good start for fantasy owners. Brandon Lloyd (6-169-1) and Jabar Gaffney (12-140) led the Broncos WRs this week. While Demaryuis Thomas (2-43) and Eddie Royal (4-23) had quiet games. All the Broncos WRs are to be considered no more than WR3/WR4s for fantasy owners. If you want to rank them I would say that Lloyd was the top WR followed by Royal, Thomas and then Gaffney. Kyle Orton had a career game for passing yards with 476. He also threw 1 TD and 1 INT. Orton is a borderline QB1 right now in fantasy and makes a great QB2.

Cardinals 24, Raiders 23
Cardinals: Derek Anderson still sucks. Anderson was 12 of 26 for 122 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Anderson's poor play has been a huge problem for Larry Fitzgerald owners. Larry Fitzgerald had just 2 receptions for 26 yards and a TD. His TD salvaged his very poor day but his owners have to look at him at no more than a WR2 and no longer as a elite WR1 in fantasy terms. The return of Beanie Wells meant that Tim Hightower's honeymoon is over for him. Hightower had 11 carries for 40 yards while Wells rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries. Look for Wells to take the lead back role in Arizona and Hightower move back to his 3rd down and goal line back role. Wells is a low end RB2 moving forward and Hightower makes a good bye week fill in.

Raiders: Darren McFadden's numbers were not harmed by the return of Michael Bush. McFadden had 25 carries for 105 yards and 1 TD. McFadden is shaping up to be a RB2 so far this season and great value to people that drafted him late in their drafts this year. Bruce Gradkowski (17/34-255-1-1) being named starter benefits WR Louis Murphy the most. Murphy had 5 receptions for 119 yards on the day and looks to be a good WR3/Flex play with Gradkowski at the helm. Zach Miller also had a solid game with 4 catches for 64 yards and 1 TD. Miller is a great TE2 with upside. Sebastian Janikowski cost the Raiders this game with 3 missed FGs.

Seahawks 27, Chargers 20
Seahawks: Justin Forsett was given 17 of the 18 carries that the Seahawks RBs had in the game. Forsett rushed for 63 yards on those 17 carries and added in 3 receptions for 31 yards. It appears the Forsett could be the main back in Seattle moving forward and would make a solid RB4/borderline RB3 for fantasy owners. Leon Washington only had 1 offense touch but he did return 2 kick returns for TDs in the game that were big in the Seahawks win over the Chargers. Matt Hasselbeck was 19 of 32 for 220 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He remains a low end QB2. John Carlson scored a TD this week and ended the week with 5 catches for 61 yards too. Carlson makes a nice TE2 that has the upside to be a TE1 if he continues to play well. The Seattle WR situation is a mess and none showed be owned in leagues as of now. It appears that the Seahawks are rotating all the WRs throughout the game.

Chargers: Matt Tolbert filled in for Ryan Mathews and put up respectable numbers with 73 yards rushing and 13 yards receiving. Tolbert only holds value in leagues as long as Mathews is injured. Philip Rivers set a team record with 455 yards passing. He also threw 2 TDs and 2 INTs, but was hurt the most by fumbles lost by Naanee, Tolbert, and Sporles. He might have been in for a better day if not for the fumbles. Malcom Floyd stayed Rivers top WR with 6 catches for 97 yards and 1 TD. Antonio Gates also remained another top target for Rivers with 109 yards receiving and 1 TD. Floyd is a solid WR2 and Gates is the top TE in fantasy football right now.

Week 3 Recap Early Games

Titans 29, Giants 10
Titans: Chris Johnson as excepted bounced back from his poor game last week against the Steelers. Johnson rushed for 125 yards and 2 TDs. Vince Young (10/16-118-1-0) managed the game well for the Titans and did not turn the ball over this week. Young in a low end QB2 and shouldn't be in fantasy lineups. Underachieving wide receiver Kenny Britt scored his first TD of the season and ended the season with just 2 catches for 26 yards. Nate Washington (3-30) remains the only Titan WR that should be on rosters in redraft leagues.

Giants: Eli Manning threw for 386 yards and zero TDs. Manning also threw 2 more interceptions this week and has a total of 8 turnovers (6 INTs, 2 fumbles) through the first 3 games. If you are in a league that gives negative points for INTs and fumbles lost Eli is not performing up to expectations. Eli needs to start taking care of the ball or he will be a QB2 in those type of leagues. For leagues that don't punish teams for the INTs and fumbles lost he is a low end QB1 with some upside. Ahmed Bradshaw led the way again for the Giants RBs. Bradshaw rushed for 88 yards and added 30 yards on 5 receptions to go along with 1 TD. Bradshaw is a solid RB2 as long as he stays healthy. Steve Smith (9-103) finally had a good game this week. Mario Manningham (6-78) and Hakeem Nicks (7-56) had solid games also. Of the Giants WRs Nicks and Smith are the ones to be considered WR2, while Manningham is a solid WR3/Flex play.

Bengals 20, Panthers 7
Bengals: Carson Palmer put up average numbers with 1 TD and 2 INTs with 195 yards passing. Palmer since week 1 has been average at best and should be considered a QB2 that has upside. Cedric Benson gave his owners a good game rushing for 81 yards and 1 TD and receiving for 9 yards and 1 TD. With Benson's poor yards per carry average (3.1 yards) Benson makes a low end RB2. The Bengals star WRs had a quiet game. Chad Ochocinco only had 4 receptions for 34 yards while Terrell Owens had 4 receptions for 42 yards. Ochocinco is a solid WR2 and will have better games while Owens so far this year is a should only be considered a WR4 with the chance to be a WR3 for fantasy teams. Rookie TE Jermaine Gresham had 4 catches for 59 yards to lead the Bengals. Gresham is no more than a TE2 for fantasy owners.

Panthers: Jimmy Clausen got his first career start this week and put up 188 yards passing and 1 INT with 2 fumbles lost. Clausen's poor play had an effect on Steve Smith's good start to this season. Smith only managed 3 catches for 22 yards. With Clausen starting Smith's expectations should be lowered and he should be considered a WR3 now. DeAngelo Williams(10-64) and Johnathon Stewart (6-13-1) both continue to struggle early here in the season. Stewart got the first rushing TD for the Panthers this season. Williams is slowly becoming a RB3 while Stewart should not be in starting lineups until further notice. It should be noted that Mike Goodson has taken over the 3rd Down back role in Carolina and had 4 receptions for 47 yards.

Steelers 38, Buccaneers 13
Steelers: Charlie Batch stepped in as the Steelers 3rd QB that will start a game for them this season. Batch had 188 yards passing a 3 TDs and 2 INTs. Despite the INTs Batch,s play was a benefic to Mike Wallace who hauled in 2 TDs and 100 yards receiving. Hines Ward also caught a TD and ended the day with 34 yards receiving. Wallace and Ward owners only have to wait two more weeks (1 game, steelers on bye week 5) until Ben Roethlisberger returns. When Big Ben returns Wallace and Ward can be considered solid WR3s for fantasy owners. Rashard Mendenhall put up his best game of the season with 143 yards rushing a 1 TD. Mendenhall remains a great RB2 and a low end RB1 for fantasy owners. The Steelers Defense/Special Teams put in another great game with week and remains a difference maker for fantasy owners that have them.

Buccaneers: Not much to discuss here for the Bucs. Rookie WR Mike Williams was finally held out of the endzone ending the game with 5 catches for 55 yards. Mike Williams is no more than a WR4/Flex play for fantasy owners. Josh Freemans solid play ended this week with 188 yards passing and 1 INT with zero TDs. Freeman shouldn't be on rosters in redraft leagues. Caddy Williams (6-13) had a poor game as excepted with going against the Steelers. Williams is no more than a RB3/RB4. Rookie LeGarrette Blount rushed for a TD and 26 yards on 6 carries. Blount is worth a look in dynasty type leagues.

Patriots 38,  Bills 30
Patriots: Tom Brady had a great gaming passing for 252 yards and 3 TDs. Randy Moss' only 2 catches resulted in 2 TDs that totaled 42 yards. Brady and Moss remain elite starters at their position for fantasy owners. Wes Welker had a slow game with 4 catches for 45 yards. Welker is a solid WR2 in PPR leagues and a great WR3 in non-PPR ones. BenJarvis Green-Ellis led the backfield in carries with 16 for 98 yards and 1 TD. Green-Ellis should be on rosters in bigger leagues and be viewed as a bye week fill-in for now. Preseason superstar Danny Woodhead reportedly took over Kevin Faulk's role in the offense as the 3rd down back. Woodhead had zero receptions but did have 42 yards rushing and 1 TD. Woodhead should be looked at in very deep leagues only. Supposed starter Fred Tavlor only had 6 carries due to a toe injury. Rookie TE Aaron Hernandez put up another solid game with 6 receptions for 65 yards and remains a TE2 in fantasy leagues.

Bills: Marshawn Lynch again led the Bills in carries with 13 for 79 yards this week. Lynch is no more than a RB3 and should be on rosters in all leagues. Rookie CJ Spiller had 29 yards rushing and 10 receiving with 1 receiving TD. He also ran back a kickoff 95 yards for another TD. Spiller  is just a RB4 for owners until he can show he will be used more in Buffalo.

Ravens 24, Browns 17
Ravens: Anquan Boldin had a great game today hauling in 3 TDs for 142 yards. Joe Flacco bounced back with a good game passing for 262 yards and the 3 TDs that went to Boldin. Flacco remains a low end QB1 that has great upside. Ray Rice so far this season has only put up medicore numbers compared to what he did last season and was excepted to this year. Rice rushed 80 yards and received for 16 but again with held out of the endzone. Rice late in the game reportedly suffered a knee injury and the extent is unknown. Owners should watch the reports closing this week on Rice.

Browns: Peyton Hillis finally got a full slate of touches since Jerome Harrison was out and he put up great numbers against a good Ravens defense. Hillis rushed 22 times for 144 yards and 1 TD. He also had 7 receptions for 36 more yard. Hillis could have played himself into the starting RB spot for the Browns and could become a solid RB3/Flex for fantasy owners. Seneca Wallace had a solid effort with 141 yards and a TD pass to Ben Watson. Wallace shouldn't be on fantasy rosters.

Chiefs 31, 49ers 10
Chiefs: Chiefs continue there surprising start. Matt Cassel had his best game fantasy wise this year with 3 TDs and 250 yards passing. The Chiefs backfield remains a RBBC with Thomas Jones getting the bulk of the carries. Jones had 19 carries for 95 yards and a TD. While Jamaal Charles had 12 for 97 yards. For the owners that drafted Charles as a RB1 then shouldn't except consistent RB1 numbers until there is an injury to Thomas Jones. Charlers is no more than a low end RB2 with upside. Thomas Jones should be considered a RB3 and a great bye week fill in for owners. Dwayne Bowe caught 2 passes for 60 yards and a TD. Bowe is no more than a WR3 right now and needs to be more consistent in his play. Rookie RB/WR Dexter McCluster scored a TD this week on a 31 yard pass reception and ended the day with 69 yards receiving. McCluster is an exciting player but shouldn't be on rosters in redraft leagues. Rookie TE Tony Moeaki scored his 2nd TD of the season this week and had 4 receptions for 44 yards. Moeaki should be considered a TE2 in redraft leagues and a great stash for dynasty league owners.

49ers: Frank Gore had a solid game rushing for 43 yards and receiving for 109 but was held out of the endzone. Gore remains a stud RB and should never be benched. Alex Smith continued his struggles throwing 1 TD and 1 INT for 232 yards passing. Smith is no more than a QB2 right now. Michael Crabtree disappointed his owners again with 3 receptions for 37 yards. Crabtree should be considered a WR4 until he can put up consistent numbers. Vernon Davis was quiet today with just 22 yards on 3 receptions. Davis is still a top 5 TE even with the underperforming Alex Smith.

Cowboys 27, Texans 13
Cowboys: Tony Romo finally led the Cowboys to victory this year with 2 TDs and 284 yards passing. Romo is still one of the top QBs in fantasy football and should not be benched. The Cowboys committed to Marion Barber this week in the backfield and gave him 17 carries compared to Felix Jones' 7. Barber rushed for 55 yards and a TD on those 17 carries. Barber is the back to own and should be considered a RB3 right now while Felix Jones can be cur from rosters. Miles Austin (2-20) was held in check so Roy Williams stepped up and had his best game ever as a Cowboy. Williams hauled in 2 TDs and 117 yards receiving. Williams is a WR4 at best. Jason Witten played this week after suffering a concussion and put in a solid game with 7 catches for 56 yards and remains a top 10 option for fantasy owners at his position.

Texans: Matt Schaub was only average this week throwing 1 TD and 2 INTs on 241 yards passing. Schaub is still a high end QB1. Arian Foster since scoring 3 TDs in week 1 has not scored since but he put up decent numbers with 107 yards rushing and 20 receiving. Foster is a low end RB1 and the TDs should come. Andre Johnson (4-64) aggravated his ankle injury and word is it is the dreaded high ankle sprain. If the report is true its best for Andre Johnson owners that he sits out a few weeks and get healthy for  the stretch run into the fantasy playoffs. Kevin Walker score another TD this week to salvage his day for owners that started him. Walker remains a solid WR3.

Vikings 24, Lions 10
Vikings: Brett Favre continued his average play this week and threw 2 INTs. He did pass for 1 TD and 201 yards in the Vikings first victory of the season. The Vikings are on bye next week and then their next 4 games are against the Jets, Packers, Patriots, and Cowboys. Favre should be considered a QB2 until further notice. Adrian Peterson rushed for a career long 80 yard TD for his 2nd TD of the day. Pererson finished the day with 160 yards rushing and 30 yards receiving. Peterson is one of the best backs in the league and should never be on benches in fantasy leagues. Percy Harvin finally got on the same page as Favre and had 62 yards and 1 TD this week. Harvin is the best WR the Vikings have and they are finding ways to get the ball in his hands. Harvin at this point is a WR3/flex in fantasy leagues. Visanthe Shiancoe left the game with a injury after only having 1 reception.  He has the bye week to heal up but be sure to check practice reports leading into week 5

Lions: Jahvid Best aggravated his toe injury and left the game after totaling 26 yards rushing and 13 yards receiving. It would be wise to check reports during the week to see how bad the injury is. Best in my opinion is a good sell high candidate right now for fantasy owners if you can get good return for him. Calvin Johnson continued his average numbers only catching 6 balls for 56 yards. Johnson was drafted as a WR1 but should be considered a WR2 until Stafford returns in the coming weeks.

Falcons 27, Saints 24 OT
Falcons: Michael Turner finally scored a TD this season and added his first 100 yard games with 114 yards and caught 2 balls for 11 yards. The groin injury that took out Turner in last weeks game didn't look to bother him at all. Turner is a solid RB1 and owners can feel fine playing him. Matt Ryan had 228 yards passing a 2 TDs and no turnovers. Ryan is a low end QB1 that has good upside if he can be consistent in his play. Roddy White continued his good season with a TD and 56 yards receiving and Tony Gonzalez caught 8 passes for 110 yards and a TD. Both White and Gonzalez are sure fire #1's for fantasy owners at there position.

Saints: Pierre Thomas was in for a full workload as a RB1 but disappointed with just 9 carries for 30 yards and 6 receptions for 61 yards. Thomas' touches should be better in the next weeks and he should be a RB1 still for fantasy owners. Drew Brees threw 3 TDs and 2 INTs with 365 yards passing. Brees as ever one knows is a elite fantasy QB and he showed it again this week. Lance Moore led the Saints WRs with 2 TDs and 149 yards receiving. Moore should be on everyone waiver wire lists this week to pick up.  Jeremy Shockey had 78 yards receiving and 1 TD on the day and he should be considered a low end TE1. Marques Colston was held in check with jsut 4 catches for 25 yards. Colston is a WR2 for fantasy owners still but he needs to put up better numbers or he will be a WR3 soon. Garrett Hartley missed a chip shot in OT for the Saints to win and now Rotoworld is reporting that John Carney is being brought in for a tryout this week. Be sure to check this week on who is the Saints kicker who ever it is they are a must start at the kicker position for fantasy owners.

Week 2 Target Report

Week 2 Target Report

Thanks to FantasySharks.com and their easy to use target stat rankings.
  • Andre Johnson led all players in targets this week and it showed with his impressive game.
  • Jahvid Best led the RBs with a whopping 13 targets in week 2. If he is involved in the passing game like this as the season goes on he should be a great play in PPR leagues.
  • Kansas City's rookie tight end Tony Moeaki and Seattles John Carlson led the TEs in looks with 10. Moeaki is shaping up in being a nice little dynasty stash for fantasy players.

Week 2 Injuries/Benchings

There were a few njures to key fantasy players this week and a couple benchings that will affect fantasy teams.

Michael Turner: Turner was off to a good start on Sunday but was slowed by a groin injury. After the game the Falcons said that Turner's injury was minor and that he could have returned to the game if it wasn't a blowout. Even though Turner was limited in practice today Coach Smith had no worries about it and has declared Turner ready to go on Sunday. It would be wise to monitor this situation the rest of the week in case there is a change. Turner is a must start every week.

Ryan Mathews: Mathews suffered a ankle injury early in the game on Sunday and didn't return. Mathews has said it is a high ankle sprain. High ankle sprains can be a hard injury to heal but Mathews thinks he has a chance to play this week. Expect Mathews to be limited this week and may not play at all. Mike Tolbert is looking more and more likely to get the start this week in a favorable matchup against Seattle. Mathews should be benched even if he is active for Sunday if you have better options.

Beanie Wells: Wells has missed the first 2 games this season with a knee injury that was sustained near the end of the preseason. Wells was limited in practice today and could be nearing a return this Sunday. If Wells does play though he should remain on fantasy benches until it is seen how much he plays coming off the injury

Andre Johnson: Andre left the game briefly after hurting his right ankle. Johnson is expected to be fine and play this week. Owners should start him as usual but be advised he could be slowed a little.

Malcom Floyd: Floyd had a bounce back game last week scoring a TD and receiving for 95 yards. Floyd was limited today with a hamstring injury and owners should track this throughout the week.

Benchings
Kevin Kolb: Kolb was cleared to play this week and was believed to resume his role as the starting QB in Philly. But Coach Andy Reid  changed course and has named Michael Vick the Eagles starter the rest of the season. Reid's reasoning was because of the exceptional play of Michael Vick in Kolb's absence. Michael Vick makes a solid QB1 for owners and great trade bait for owners that are strong at QB to teams that are starving for a quality starting QB. All Eagle starters get a little bump in stock with this switch. Kolb can be drop in 10 and 12 teams leagues and lower. Kolb can remain on rosters in bigger leagues and keeper/dynasty leagues.

Jason Campbell: Campbell was thought to be the QB that the Raiders were not getting in JaMarcus Russell. But Campbell ended up playing no different than Russell. Bruce Gradkowski will replace Campbell and shouldn't be considered a must pick up for most fantasy league formats. Louis Murphy will be the biggest benefactor of this move. Murphy put up his best numbers on Sunday when Campbell got benched. Campbell on the other hand can be dropped in all formats. Campbells future as a starting QB in the NFL is in doubt. Campbell can be dropped in all leagues.

Matt Moore: Moore played himself into the starting QB spot for Carolina late last season with solid QB play against some quality teams. This year has started off horribly for Moore who has thrown only 2 TDs and 6 INTs. Moore is being replaced by highly touted rookie QB Jimmy Clausen. Clausen shouldn't affect the stock of other Carolina Panther starter like Steve Smith, Jonathon Stewart, and DeAngelo Williams. Moore can be dropped in all leagues and Clausen isn't a must add for fantasy owners.

Waiver Wire pickups 2

Quarterbacks:

Josh Freeman, Buccaneers: Freeman was put up two solid games here early in the season. If you are in need of a QB2 and have a open roster spot take a chance on Freeman if there isn't much out there. Rookie WR Mike Williams has been a great addition for the Bucs. Freeman won't like up the world but you can except around 200 yards passing and 1-2 TDs.

Running Backs:

Jason Snelling, Falcons: Snelling filled in for a injured Michael Turner with a 3 TD game and a 186 yards in total offense. If he is not already on the Turner owners roster Snelling should be one of the top waiver pickups this week. Snelling will make great trade bait for owners who don't own Turner and if Turner does get hurt again Snelling could put up good numbers. He should be owned in every league

Mike Tolbert, Chargers: Tolbert is in the same boat as Snellling. Tolbert benefited from a Ryan Mathews injury and put up solid numbers. He rushed for 82 yards and receiverd for another 13 to go along with 2 TDs. Tolbert is the Chargers goal line back so he has some more value than Snelling in that respect if the lead back on the team is heathly. He should be owned in bigger leagues.

Wide Receivers:

Demaryius Thomas, Broncos: The rookie WR made his NFL debut this week and Thomas is off to a great start. Thomas caught 1 TD on the way to a 8 catch for 98 yards day. Thomas was drafted to replace Brandon Marshall in the Broncos offense. Thomas should be the one of the top waiver pick for owners this week and should be owned in all leagues.

Kevin Walter, Texans: If Walter is not on a roster he needs to be the top waiver pick up this week,. Walter put up a 144 yards on 11 recpetions and scored his second TD of the season. Walter 2 years ago was a great WR3 for owners catching 8 TDs and 899 yards. Last season he dealt with injuries and this year looks finally healthy. With the Texans potent offense and passing game Walter should be owned in all leagues.

Week 2 MNF Recap

Saints 25, 49ers 22
Saints: Saints had luck on their side tonight again. Drew Brees(254-2-0) led the Saints on a final drive that ended with Garrett Hartley kicking a 37 yard Field Goal that was partially blocked but had enough power to make it between the uprights. Reggie Bush caught a early TD from Brees and finished the game with 4 catches for 30 before exiting the game. Marques Colston led the wide receivers with 5 receptions for 67 yards but no TDs. Brees other TD went to backup TE David Thomas on a 3 yard reception. Lance Moore and Robert Meachem had zero catches tonight while Devery Henderson had 3 catches for 28 yards. Henderson remains the #2 WR in New Orleans and should only be considered a bye week flier. Meachem and Moore can both be released for better options in leagues. Pierre Thomas led the rushing attack with 18 carries for a mere 46 yards but he did have 8 catches for 57 yards. As mentioned Reggie Bush left the game with an injury to his leg and an early report says he suffered a break in his lower leg and is expected to be out at least 6 weeks. If that news is true Pierre Thomas becomes a RB1 for fantasy owners and should be in for a nice amount of touches in the coming weeks.

49ers: Alex Smith played better this week but it wasn't enough to beat the Saints. Smith had 275 yards passing and another 28 rushing and had 1 TD and 2 INTs.  Vernon Davis remained Smith's top target hauling in 4 passes for 78 yards after starting the game off slow. Michael Crabtree had only 1 catch tonight for 32 yards. Crabtree is no more than a WR3 right now for fantasy owners and could be benched for better options. With Crabtree's poor game,  Josh Morgan hauled in 6 passes for 70 yards. The bright spot for the 49ers was the great game that Frank Gore put in. Gore scored 2 TDs and could have possibly been 3 if he didn't take himself out at the goal line and let Anthony Dixon rush 2 yards for his first career TD. Gore also rushed 20 times for 112 yards and catch 7 passes for 56 yards.

Week 2 Recap Late Games

Broncos 31, Seahawks 14
Broncos: Kyle Orton turned in another solid game for owners with 307 yards and 2 TDs. Orton's solid play makes him a great option for QB starved fantasy teams. Orton's new weapon, rookie wide receiver Demaryius Thomas made his NFL debut and put in a excellent game hauling in 8 passes for 98 yards and 1 TD. Thomas should be high on owners wavier wire lists this week especially if they are thin at wide receiver. Eddie Royal caught Kyle Orton's other TD pass from 13 yards out in the first quarter. Royal finished the game with a total of 65 yards on 5 receptions to go along with that TD. Royal remains a solid WR3 for fantasy owners with the success solid play our of Orton. Second year back Knowshon Moreno put up a total of 118 yards yesterday on 28 touches. Moreno also added a 1 yard TD in the third quarter. Moreno is not in any trouble of losing touches and looks to be more involved this year than last. Moreno makes a solid RB2 for owners. It should be noted that Buckhalter did snipe a 1 yard TD away from Moreno in the first half but there should be no worries that it will happen on a regular basis.

Seahawks: Last week the Seahawks surprised NFL fans by blowing out NFC West favorite San Francisco. Matt Hasselbeck too advantage of San Fran turnovers and put in a solid game but this week it was a role reversal. Hasselbeck threw for 1 TD and rushed for another ending the day with 233 yards passing. But Hasselbeck threw 3 interceptions in the game this week. Hasselbeck should be no more that a low end QB2/bye week flier for teams. Justin Forsett lead the muddy Seahawks backfield this week in carries with 8 for 44 yards. Forsett did rush for a short TD early in the game but it was called back because of a holding penalty and then Hasselbeck threw a interception a few plays later. Forsett or any of the Seattle RBs should not be considered fantasy starters until there is a clear picture on who is the lead back. Golden Tate made his NFL debut this week after being a healthy scratch week 1. Tate ended the day with just 1 catch for 52 yards. Mike Williams was slowed by a thigh bruise this week and managed only 1 reception. Deon Butler lead the wide receivers with 5 catches for 50 yards.

Raiders 16, Rams 14
Raiders: Darren McFadden may have finally come around as a NFL RB. McFadden followed up his great game last week with a 145 yard effort on 30 carries but was held out of the endzone. Michael Bush is nearing a return from his broken thumb but with the way McFadden has performed with Bush out McFadden is making it hard to keep him off the field. McFadden, if Bush is out, should be looked at as a great flex play and a low end RB2. Jason Campbell was benched for Bruce Gradkowski and it could possibly start a QB debate in Oakland. Gradkowski finished the day with 162 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT compared to Campbell's 87 yards and 1 INT. Louis Murphy lead the way with 6 receptions for 91 yards and 1 TD while Darrius Heyward-Bey had his best game as a NFL pro yet with 6 catches for 80 yards. Murphy is the WR to own in Oakland and is a WR4 with potential to become a solid WR3.

Rams: Steven Jackson was the leading rusher and receiver for the Rams this week. Jackson put up solid numbers rushing for 75 yards and receiving for another 50. Jackson was held out of the endzone again though. Jackson needs to start getting into the endzone to warrant the top 20 pick that fantasy owners used on him. Sam Bradford had a average game this week and passed for only 167 yards and 2 TDs and 1 INT. Bradford is showing a lot of promise for his owners in dynasty type league, however Bradford should not be owned in redraft leagues at this point in his career. Mark Clayton a top waiver wire pick up last week only managed 2 receptions this week. But those 2 receptions resulted in 2 TDs for a total of 24 yards. Clayton should be considered a great WR3 play for fantasy owners.

Texans 30, Redskins 27 OT
Texans: Matt Schaub had an amazing game in the Texans come from behind victory that went to OT. The Texans scored 20 second half points to force OT and it Schaub lead the way passing for a astonishing 497 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT. Andre Johnson suffered a ankle injury in the game but returned and was vintage Andre. Johnson catch 12 passes for 158 yards and 1 TD. Kevin Walter the Texans #2 WR also put up big stats hauling in 11 balls for 144 yards and 1 TD also. Jacoby Jones the teams #3 WR had a solid game catching a TD pass also and ending the day with 6 receptions for 53 yards. Arian Foster followed up his massive game last week with a solid effort this week. Foster was held scoreless but he had 138 total yards on 22 touches. Owen Daniels who is recovering from a knee injury only had 2 catches for 24 yards in the game and should remain on fantasy benches until he can show he can play a full slate of plays. The Texans are shaping up to be a mini verison of the Colts. Schaub, Foster, and Johnson are no brainer starters for fantasy owners. While Walter and Jones should be considered great flex plays and solid WR3 going forward.

Redskins: Donavon McNabb had one of this best games of his career throwing for 426 yards and 1 TD. McNabb has showed that he is a great QB2 and a low end QB1 right now. Santana Moss had the big game for the Redskins hauling in 10 passes for 89 yards. While old vet Joey Galloway had 3 receptions for 88 yards and was overthrown on a deep pass that would have sealed the game for the Redskins. Chris Cooley continued his solid play with McNabb now in town and hauled in McNabb's only TD pass and ended the game with 64 yards on 3 catches. Cooley is the best option in the Redskins passing game and should be considered a TE1. Moss though should be viewed as no more than a WR3. Clinton Portis only rushed for 33 yards but had 2 TDs which helped out his owners that started him.

Jets 28, Patriots 14
Jets: Matt Sanchez rebounded from last weeks poor game throwing for 3 TDs on 220 yards and no INTs. Sanchez' top target was tight end Dustin Keller who hauled in 7 passes for 115 yards and 1 TD. Keller and Sanchez remain backups for fantasy owners. Braylon Edwards caught 1 of the other Sanchez TDs and ended the game with 45 yards on 5 receptions. While Jerricho Cotchery also caught a TD and had 4 catches but only managed 26 yards. The Jets backfield remains the big fantasy story here. LaDanian Tomlinson again outperformed highly draft Shonn Greene with 92 yards(76 rushing, 26 receiving) of total offense on 15 touches. While Greene on the other hand managed 60 yards(52 rushing, 8 receiving) on 16 touches. This is a full blown committee and right now the supposedly washed up Tomlinson is looking like he has fresh legs and has regained some of the magic that made him a fantasy star a few years back.

Patriots: Tom Brady coming off a excellent week last week had a alright day against a tough matchup. Brady threw for 248 yards and 2 TDS and 2 INTs. Brady remains a high end QB1. Randy Moss went up against his arch nemesis Darrelle Revis. Moss had 2 catches for 38 yards and beat Revis for 1 TD. But Moss' day should have been better when Revis went down with a hamstring injury but Moss did not catch 1 pass after the injury which was really disappointing. Wes Welker (6-38-1) scored another TD this week and in the first two weeks this season has 3 TDs and is just 1 away from matching last years total of 4. Welker and Moss remain top end starters. Rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez lead the Patriots in receiving with 6 catches for 101 yards. For the tight ends in New England to looks like rookie Hernandez is the main TE target when the Patriots on inbetween the 20s and fellow rookie Rob Gronkowski (1-14-0) is the main TE in the redzone. For now both are just bye week fliers. With the trade of Laurence Maroney it was execpted that Fred Taylor would get the main balk of carries but BenJarvis Green-Ellis lead in carries. This is still a RB situation to avoid.

Chargers 38, Jaguars 13
Chargers: Philip Rivers and crew rebounded from last weeks upset loss to Kansas City. Rivers threw for 322 yards and 3 TDs but also had 2 INTs. Antonio Gates remained Rivers favorite target hauling in 5 passes for 57 and 2 TDs. Malcom Floyd rebounded and caught 3 passes for 95 yards and 1 TD. Last week Legedu Naanee had a big game but this week he only managed 1 catch for 14 yards. Floyd remains the WR to start for the Chargers and Naanee is only a bench stash right now. Rookie Ryan Mathews was having a decent game rushin 5 times for 26 yards and hauling in 2 passes for 29 with 1 fumble lost. But Mathews left the game with a ankle injury. Word is that Mathews should be fine and ready for week 3 but be sure to check practice reports. Mike Tolbert took over as the lead back for the Chargers and rushed for 2 TDs and 82 yards on 16 carries. Tolbert right now looks at being the handcuff to Mathews.

Jaguars: Will the real Mike Sims-Walker please stand up? Sims-Walker last week was held catchless but this week he exploded for 10 receptions and 105 yards along with 1 TD. Sims-Walker needs to be consistent for owners to consider him a WR1 but not right he is a solid WR2 with high upside. David Garrard struggled this week throwing 4 INTs while putting up 173 yards passing and 1 TD. He was benched for Luke McCown who had a solid game passing for 120 yards and no turnovers. Maurice Jones-Drew struggled also and only managed 31 yards on 12 rushes and 1 catch for 17 yards. MoJo remains a RB1 but his start this season puts him up as the biggest bust so far this season.

Colts 38, Giants 14
Colts: Peyton Manning continued his hot start to the season throwing for 255 yards and 3 TDs with no turnovers again. The Colts were more balanced this week and Joseph Addai and Donald Brown had a good amount of carries. Addai lead in carries with 20 that lead to 92 yards rushing. Brown ended the game with 69 yards on 11 carries and scored the lone rushing TD for the Colts. Addai remains a solid RB2 while Brown is a bye week flier. Browns value will not go up until an injury. Reggie Wayne (7-96-1), Dallas Clark (5-83-1), and Austin Collie (4-25-1) all caught a TD from Manning this week. Pierre Garcon only had 1 catch for 11 yards. The way it is shaping up right now Collie is the #2 WR to have in Indy not Garcon. Garcon should remain on benches until he can show he can put up consistent numbers.

Giants: Eli Manning continued to turn the ball over again this week and they played a team that can hurt you if you do. Manning turned the ball over 3 times (2 fumbles). He threw for 2 TDs and 161 yards. Mario Manningham lead the way in receiving with 4 catches for 75 yards and 1 TD. While Hakeem Nicks scored another TD this week and finished with 2 catches for 38 yards. The WR that was drafted the highest of the three this year was Steve Smith. As of right now Steve Smith is not performing up to his draft spot. Smith only managed 4 catches this week for 35 yards. Manning spreads the ball around too much to consider any of these guys more than a low end WR2. Ahmad Bradshaw lead the backfield with 17 carries for 87 yards. While Brandon Jacobs only received 4 carries for 8 yards after getting benched for tossing his helmet into the stands. Jacobs has reportedly requested a trade but the Giants are not interested in trading him. Look for Bradshaw to be the main back in New York now and put up RB2 numbers for fantasy owners.
